New Heart Church

What we believe

These are the fundamental beliefs of New Heart Church. They are a starting point for our faith, not an exhaustive list. “Speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.” Titus 2:1

The Bible
The Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct. All Scripture is a testimony to Yeshua. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
One God
We believe in one God, revealed in Scripture as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4)
Yeshua
He is the eternal Son of God, both God and man: born of a virgin, sinless, crucified for our sins, raised bodily from the dead, and exalted at the right hand of the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11)
Sin and salvation
All people have sinned, and the wages of sin is death. Our only hope is the shed blood of Yeshua, received through repentance and faith. We are saved by grace through faith, not by keeping the Torah. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8; Acts 4:12)
Baptism
Immersion in water is commanded for all who repent and believe. It is a public confession of faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-4)
The Holy Spirit
Believers should earnestly seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with its power for life and service and the gifts of the Spirit. We take no stance on whether it is the same as or separate from water baptism. (Acts 1:8)
Passover
Yeshua commanded us to remember Him through the bread and the fruit of the vine. Passover remembers both the Exodus and the shed blood of our Redeemer. (1 Corinthians 11:25)
The Sabbath
The seventh day, Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, is a holy convocation and a day of rest devoted to God. Yeshua is Lord of the Sabbath. (Matthew 12:8)
Resurrection
The dead in Christ will rise at His return to eternal life. A second resurrection follows the thousand-year reign of Christ, for judgment. (1 Corinthians 15:23; Acts 24:15)
Marriage
God designed marriage to be a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman. (Genesis 2:24; Hebrews 13:4)
How we walk it out
We keep the Sabbath and the Feasts of the LORD, follow the food laws of Leviticus 11, dress modestly, and practice biblical headship in the home. (1 John 3:7)
Elders
A group of elders with equal authority jointly pastors the church, teaches the Word, and protects the congregation from false teaching.
Giving
We do not offer tax receipts. Each person decides in their own heart what to give. When the elders see a need, they report it to the congregation so members can give directly.
Traditions
We are cautious about the traditions of men. They should never rise above God's commands, and we do not take part in or esteem traditions connected to pagan gods. Other traditions are judged good or bad by the fruit they produce and whether they violate any principle of Scripture. Christians need not unite around any tradition, though a congregation may find one helpful for community.
Calendar
No calendar interpretation is perfect, and we ask members not to argue about calendars. For unity, we presently follow the Hillel calendar and keep studying the topic.
End times
Scripture contains prophecy about how God will conclude this age. We do not try to predict the day and do not follow anyone who does (Matthew 24:36). We teach people to live each day expecting the Master's return (Luke 12:37-38; Mark 13:34-37). We tend to hold a premillennial view, that Yeshua will return and reign for 1,000 years, but this is a secondary issue we do not need to agree on to serve God together.
Unity
We seek unity with other Christians and extend grace to believers who do not share our Torah-positive view. We cannot join with those who diminish Yeshua or distort the gospel.
